Cut, grimace, inspect, sigh.
Test, scream, examine, take notes.
Magnify, inject, tolerate, cry.

This was his life. This was their life.

Lea and Isa were bounded to an unwanted fate of torture and pain. No… not necessarily unwanted. They had come to this castle willingly, hoping to make a change and improvement their insipid and uneventful lives after hearing about an offer the six men whom lived there had presented.
Had they known their future would have awaited this… things would be different, and they wouldn't have to endure the agonizing lifestyle they now called reality.

Long, painful, horrific days were spent alongside the company of syringes, scalpels, and Petri dishes. Their past, happiness, and all things personal were stripped mercilessly from them, as they became nothing more than test subjects. Dehumanized data.

They couldn't escape this life, no matter how hard they tried or wished, for they had been literally bonded to experiment tables by their wrists and ankles. It was a malicious and taboo form of torturous security neither of the boys had dared to believe was an actuality.

They'd became pathetic prisoners, their personalities being drained slowly day by day along with their blood, as the only strength they were able to muster came from either hope of rescue, or animalistic begging for the small amounts of food they'd receive.

Their usual vibrant dreams of happiness and color had been replaced, and were now monochromatic visions desiring freedom. However, no matter now much the both of them yearned for it, they knew that the possibility of escape was minimal and improbable.

The name 'Xehanort' became synonymous with 'hell', 'devil', and 'evil'. He was the one in charge of what was happening to them. He was the one who instructed the man named Even to cut at their chests and stab their veins with mysterious drug stained needles.

Blood stained their once clean clothes and skin, while red scars decorated them.

Lea and Isa didn't know what they were being used for or why. Before all this, they had been told that it was positive research and held wonderful rewards. However, only rewards they'd received so far had been in the form of insufferable, intolerable, and unendurable agony.

For the first few days, the redheaded teenager refused to cry in front of his best friend. He was too old for tears, and would be mocked. But as his blood continued to surge out of his body for sampling, his weeping became as common as talking had once been.
What used to be delightful chatter of unimportant nonsense and laughable matters had been replaced with the sound of whimpers and hushed sobbing. Neither had the stamina to speak to each other anymore, but shared a room in this godforsaken hell, and looked at each other with soft, worried expressions of sympathetic sorrow.

These men… they were researching something. Isa had been able to understand their minor operations had to do with the relation of 'darkness' and 'hearts'. What it meant, and what they were trying to find, he didn't know. Sometimes Even would sigh in displeasure after using oddly shaped unidentifiable tools. Other times, he'd mutter things like, 'interesting', or 'I see…', and scribble notes into a medical journal.

It had been the thirteenth day of their imprisonment, and both Lea and Isa lay in anguish, terror-stricken of what the future had in store. Xehanort had come in to see them personally on this particular morning, which was something that rarely ever happened.

He had told them that they found something… something important to their research. It was an exciting and extremely important discovery that would lead them much closer to whatever their goal was. In order to test whatever new theory they had developed, the grey-haired man told the boys that a surgery would be taking place that day.

Minor surgical procedures had occurred before. Small things like insertions and incisions were often performed daily… but this operation would be much more major, and would include the luxury of a minor anesthetic.

Neither knew what the future held. Could this finally be the end to their suffering? Will the agonizing pain, not only of being physically abused but also that of never knowing when it torture would end, finally subside? Could this be the last time those sharp blades destroyed their young bodies? The last time that dirty magnifying glass would inspect their tear stained faces?

These optimistic views had also come with pessimistic ones. The risks were going to be undoubtedly high… and what would be happening while they were unconscious was unknown. For all they knew, today could be their last day. The last time they'd breathe, the last day of their friendship, and the last time their hearts would beat.

Excitement and nervousness had fueled Lea's body enough to turn his head towards his best friend, who lay in an identically uncomfortable bed next to his.

"Isa…?" his voice was hoarse and weak, but his eyes showed a hint of exhilaration.
Isa was too incapacitated from the last two weeks to respond through words, but looked back at Lea as a reply.
"Promise me…" the redhead was gasping heavily, his chest raising and falling dramatically, for he hadn't spoken this much in days and it was exhausting him.

"Promise me that if we make out of this alive… If we survive this… we're going to get revenge on these bastards."
Just a little short story I'd wanted to write for a while and conjured up while I was bored.

There's a theory (that I personally believe) that the reason Axel and Saîx wanted to overthrow the Organization so badly was because Ansem's six apprentices had tortured them for research of the heart- eventually causing them to become nobodies. It would also explain Vexen's obsession with experiments.

I think it's a pretty legitimate theory, seeing as in Birth By Sleep, we see them looking up at the castle, as Isa asks Lea something along the lines of, "You ready?" And they way the become heartless is currently unknown.

ANYWAYS, like I said, this is just a random short story of fanfiction. Just to exercise my writing skills and all that without actually worrying about sticking to series.
Annnnd, I hope you guys like it :)

NOTE: This is a pretty popular theory. If anyone else has uploaded a story with a similar plot it is purely coincidental. I haven't read any other fanfiction concerning this topic, and did not intend any type of copying or basing off of.
